Hamburg does not run a town jail. All arrests by the Hamburg Police Department lead to the Erie County system. The non-emergency line for Hamburg PD is (716) 648-5220. After arrest, people are taken to either the Erie County Holding Center at 40 Delaware Ave in Buffalo or the Erie County Correctional Facility at 11581 Walden Ave in Alden.

The Erie County Sheriff's Office operates both facilities under Sheriff John C. Garcia. The Holding Center handles initial bookings. Phone: (716) 858-7638. The Correctional Facility in Alden is for longer-term stays. Phone: (716) 937-9101. Pre-trial detainees and those serving one year or less stay at these locations. Sentences over a year mean a transfer to state prison under DOCCS.

Both Erie County facilities provide medical care, mental health services, and substance abuse programs. The Correctional Health Unit is at 716-858-8931. Video visitation is available through ICSenforcer. Visitors must pass metal detectors and K-9 screening. Only certain IDs are accepted. No orange clothing is allowed during visits. Children under 18 need a birth certificate.

FOIL Requests and Records in Hamburg

The Hamburg Town Clerk handles FOIL requests for local records. Police reports and town documents go through this office. For Erie County jail records, send a written request to the Erie County Sheriff's FOIL office. Copy fees are 25 cents per page. Response time is five business days.
