Islip Inmate Population

Islip inmate population records are maintained by Suffolk County, which provides all correctional services for this Long Island town. The Town of Islip sits in the central part of Suffolk County and has no municipal police force or jail of its own. The Suffolk County Police Department patrols the area, and arrests lead to detention at county facilities in Riverhead or Yaphank. The Suffolk County Sheriff's Office manages both correctional facilities and handles inmate records. To find someone in custody, use VINELink or call the sheriff's Central Records line at (631) 852-2241.

Suffolk County Detention and Islip Inmate Population

People arrested in Islip go to one of two Suffolk County facilities. The Riverhead Correctional Facility at 100 Center Drive South, Riverhead, NY 11901 is the primary intake location. The Yaphank Correctional Facility at 200 Glover Drive, Yaphank, NY 11980 also holds inmates. Sheriff Dr. Errol D. Toulon, Jr. oversees the Suffolk County Sheriff's Office and its Corrections Division.

There is no town jail in Islip. This is standard for most towns on Long Island. The county handles all detention. Multiple precincts of the Suffolk County Police Department cover the Islip area. Once an arrest happens, the person is processed at the precinct and then moved to a county facility. Both facilities house pre-trial detainees and people serving sentences of one year or less.

Visitation runs Tuesday through Saturday at Suffolk County facilities. Four sessions take place each day. The general information line for the sheriff is (631) 852-5600. Central Records can be reached at (631) 852-2241, and that line is open around the clock.

Islip Inmate Population Records and FOIL

FOIL requests for jail records go to the Suffolk County Sheriff's FOIL officer at 100 Center Dr., Riverhead, NY 11901. The sheriff's office handles incarceration records only. Police reports are separate. Contact the Suffolk County Police Department at (631) 862-6000 for arrest reports and police records.

The Islip Town Clerk processes FOIL requests for town government records. The clerk also handles vital records and licensing. Standard FOIL rules apply: five business days for an acknowledgment, 25 cents per page for copies, and a written explanation if your request is denied. You can appeal denied requests.

Criminal case records from Islip courts are available through the OCA Criminal History Record Search. The fee is $95 per search. It covers County, Supreme, City, Town, and Village courts across all 62 counties. Sealed records under CPL §160.50 do not show up. Town and Village court data before 2002 may be limited. Since May 2007, all Town and Village Courts report to OCA.
